A plain-English roundup of funding for businesses, farms and community groups, checked October 2026

Solar Panel Grants in Yorkshire

Grants for solar panels in Yorkshire come and go, and they depend on where you are. South Yorkshire businesses have a low carbon grant, Hull and East Yorkshire have a growth fund, and community groups across the region can apply to Great British Energy. Some well-known schemes have also closed. Here’s what we found when we checked in October 2026, area by area, and what to do if nothing fits.

BrightEdge Solar is an MCS-certified commercial installer based in Beverley, serving all of Yorkshire and the Humber. We run the grant application with you and do the legwork: technical details, quotes, generation forecasts and paperwork.

Before you apply: most grants need you to apply and be approved before you sign an order or start any work. Funding pots also run out, sometimes well before the published end date. Always check the scheme’s own page.

South Yorkshire: Low Carbon grants for SMEs

The South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority funds a Low Carbon Project, run locally by the councils in Sheffield, Rotherham, Barnsley and Doncaster. It gives eligible SMEs with commercial premises a grant of up to 50% of eligible low carbon improvements, up to £30,000. Solar panels are an eligible measure. You’ll usually need an energy survey that recommends the measure and shows a carbon saving. Budgets are set per council and per year. In October 2026, Sheffield’s 2026/27 pot was nearly committed and Barnsley’s was fully allocated. Check with your council’s business support team before you plan around it. See commercial solar in Sheffield and Doncaster.

Hull and East Yorkshire: Growing Places Fund

The Hull and East Yorkshire Combined Authority’s Growing Places Fund offers grants and loans to established businesses with growth projects. It isn’t a dedicated solar grant, but energy projects that support growth may fit. Talk to the Combined Authority’s business team first. See commercial solar in Hull and East Yorkshire.

West Yorkshire

West Yorkshire Combined Authority’s business energy grants ended in March 2026, and we’re not aware of a direct replacement. Businesses in Leeds, Bradford, Wakefield, Kirklees and Calderdale can still use the national routes below, a PPA or the tax reliefs. See commercial solar in West Yorkshire, Wakefield and Bradford.

York and North Yorkshire

The York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority’s business net zero grant scheme has closed. Watch for new rounds. In the meantime, the routes below still apply. See commercial solar in York and North Yorkshire, Harrogate and Selby.

Homes: Warm Homes: Local Grant

For households, several Yorkshire councils run the government’s Warm Homes: Local Grant for eligible low-income homes. In some areas, such as Bradford and Wakefield, it can include solar panels. Councils deliver these through their own appointed installers, so contact your council directly. This is a homes scheme, not a business one.

If there’s no grant: other ways to pay

Most of our commercial customers don’t use a grant at all. The numbers often work without one:

How we help with grants

  1. Check eligibility: we’ll point you to the schemes worth trying for your area and sector.
  2. Survey and design: roof, structure, supply and a generation estimate.
  3. Quote in the funder’s format, with the technical details, generation forecast and carbon saving they ask for.
  4. Wait for approval, then order and install. We won’t start before the funder says yes.
  5. Paperwork for claims: MCS certificate, invoices, photos and commissioning records.

Accreditations

  • MCS certified (NIC-601602) and a RECC member.
  • NICEIC accredited.
  • CHAS Elite accredited for health and safety.
  • 24-month workmanship warranty on commercial installs.

West Yorkshire Combined Authority’s business energy grants ended in March 2026. Businesses can still use tax reliefs, business rates relief, finance or a PPA. Community groups can apply to the Great British Energy Community Fund.
Usually not. Most grants won’t pay for work ordered or started before approval. We plan our timeline around the funder’s decision.
