Solar PV, battery storage and EV charging for homes and businesses in North East Lincolnshire
CHAS Elite accredited · MCS certified · RECC member
Grimsby and Cleethorpes have a lot going for solar: family homes across the DN31 to DN37 postcodes, an exposed coastline, and a business base built on food, seafood and the port. There's also a local link to the kit itself: the zappi EV charger we've fitted is designed and made by myenergi at Stallingborough, just outside Grimsby. BrightEdge Solar is an MCS-certified installer of solar panels, batteries and EV chargers for homes and businesses across Grimsby, Cleethorpes, Humberston and the villages. We're based in Beverley, about 36 miles away over the Humber Bridge, and our nearest install is at Goxhill on the South Humber bank, 18 miles from Grimsby.

The right system depends on the house. These are the questions we work through with Grimsby and Cleethorpes homeowners:
Installing solar panels and batteries on a home currently carries 0% VAT, until 31 March 2027. See home solar panels and battery storage.

At Goxhill, about 18 miles from Grimsby on the South Humber bank, we installed a 14.99 kWp array of JA Solar 555 W panels on a business building's trapezoidal roof, with a 15 kW SolaX hybrid inverter and 23.2 kWh of SolaX Triple Power battery storage. A battery that size lets a small business carry midday generation through to the end of the working day instead of exporting it cheaply.
North East Lincolnshire's business parks are built around food and the port. Europarc III is a food enterprise zone within the UK's biggest seafood cluster, the Port of Grimsby is home to an offshore wind operations and maintenance cluster, and there are industrial estates at Humber Gate and along the South Humber bank. Cold stores, processors, workshops and trade units run refrigeration, compressors and lighting through the day, which is when solar generates.
For larger sites, see commercial solar in Scunthorpe, Grimsby and North Lincolnshire and commercial battery storage.
North East Lincolnshire Council has 17 conservation areas, including Central Grimsby, Wellow, Scartho, Old Clee, Great Coates and Victoria Mills in Grimsby, and Cleethorpes Central Seafront, Bradford Avenue and Mill Road in Cleethorpes. It also has six Article 4 directions, five of them in conservation areas: Bradford Avenue, Mill Road, Great Coates, Humberston Fitties and Abbey Road in Central Grimsby. An Article 4 direction removes permitted development rights for the named properties, so panels there are more likely to need planning permission.
If your home is in one of these areas, tell us when you get in touch. We check your address against the council's maps before we design, and we can use all-black or in-roof panels to keep the roofline tidy.
Cleethorpes, Humberston and the seafront streets are exposed to wind and salt air off the Humber mouth. We check the fixing layout against your roof's wind exposure, follow the manufacturers' guidance for coastal sites when we choose panels and mounting hardware, and set up remote monitoring at handover so any fault is picked up quickly.
These are areas we cover, not a list of past installs.

Grimsby, Cleethorpes and most of North East Lincolnshire are on Northern Powergrid's Yorkshire network, the same licence area as Hull and East Yorkshire. That covers northern Lincolnshire too, so the process is the one we already handle north of the Humber. Further south into Lincolnshire the operator changes to National Grid Electricity Distribution, so we confirm yours from your postcode.

More on funding: solar panel grants for businesses.
Yes. We’re MCS-certified installers based in Beverley, about 36 miles away over the Humber Bridge. We cover Grimsby, Cleethorpes, Humberston, Waltham and the surrounding villages. Our nearest install is at Goxhill, about 18 miles from Grimsby.
Northern Powergrid, on its Yorkshire licence area, which covers northern Lincolnshire as well as Yorkshire. Larger systems need G99 approval before connection, which typically adds 8–12 weeks. We submit and manage the application for you.
Most home roof installs are permitted development, subject to conditions. In North East Lincolnshire’s 17 conservation areas, road-facing roofs may need permission. On properties covered by an Article 4 direction, such as parts of Bradford Avenue, Mill Road and Great Coates, permission is more likely to be needed. We check your address first.
Not for most homes or businesses at the moment. Homes get 0% VAT until 31 March 2027. Businesses can usually claim the Annual Investment Allowance. Business Lincolnshire’s grant finder lists any local funding that opens.
Yes. We fit chargers that can run on surplus solar, including the myenergi zappi, which is made at Stallingborough near Grimsby. We’ll check your supply and whether it’s single- or three-phase.
Send us your address, a recent electricity bill and a photo of the roof, and tell us if you're interested in a battery or an EV charger. We'll come back with an initial design and estimate, then arrange a survey.
