Rooftop, in-roof and ground-mounted solar for the western Wolds and the Vale of York edge
Pocklington and Market Weighton sit where the Yorkshire Wolds drop down to the Vale of York, and many properties here have land as well as roofs. We’ve installed a ground-mounted system at Wapplington, just outside Pocklington, and an in-roof system with battery storage at North Newbald, 4 miles from Market Weighton. We’re based in Beverley, 13 miles from Market Weighton, and we prepare and manage the Northern Powergrid G99 application for you.

Pocklington and Market Weighton sit where the Yorkshire Wolds drop down to the Vale of York, and many properties around them have something town homes don’t: land. That makes this one of the best parts of the East Riding for ground-mounted solar, alongside barn conversions, farm buildings, new-build homes and the units on Pocklington’s industrial estate and business park. BrightEdge Solar has installed a ground-mounted system at Wapplington, just outside Pocklington, and an in-roof system with battery storage at North Newbald, 4 miles from Market Weighton. We’re based in Beverley, 13 miles from Market Weighton.

For a barn conversion at Wapplington, near Pocklington, we installed a 29 kWp ground-mounted array of all-black Hyundai panels with 30 kW of inverter capacity and a purpose-built plant room. We used ballasted ground mounts, which need no piling or concrete foundations. They’re positioned on the ground and weighted, so they go in quickly, disturb the land very little, and can be moved or extended later.
A ground mount makes sense when: – your roofs face the wrong way, are shaded, or aren’t strong enough – you have a paddock or field corner you aren’t using – you want the panels angled for the best yield rather than following a roof pitch – you’d rather keep a listed or character roof clear
Ground-mounted arrays don’t have the same permitted development rights as roof panels, so we check planning for your site first. Read the Wapplington case study.

Arable and livestock farms around Pocklington, Market Weighton and Holme-on-Spalding-Moor have the same draws as farms across the Wolds: big sheds, daytime loads and low export prices. Nine miles north-east of Pocklington, at North Dalton, we fitted 19.8 kWp to a split corrugated and asbestos farm roof with an EV charger for holiday lets. More on farm solar panels.
Pocklington Industrial Estate and Pocklington Business Park, on the edge of the town, have workshops, light-industrial and warehouse units with engineering, agricultural, recycling and trade businesses. Market Weighton has smaller workshops and offices. Owner-occupied units with daytime loads tend to see the fastest payback, because most of the power is used on site. See commercial solar in East Yorkshire and commercial battery storage.
These are areas we cover, not a list of past installs.
Pocklington town centre is a designated conservation area. Inside it, panels on a road-facing roof may need permission, and listed buildings need listed building consent. Ground-mounted arrays have their own size and siting limits under permitted development, and larger arrays need planning permission. We check your site with East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s rules before we design.
Pocklington, Market Weighton and the villages are on Northern Powergrid’s Yorkshire network.

Yes. We’ve installed a ground-mounted array at Wapplington near Pocklington and an in-roof system with a battery at North Newbald near Market Weighton. We cover both towns and the surrounding villages from Beverley.
Sometimes. Ground-mounted arrays have their own permitted development limits on size and position, and larger arrays need planning permission. We check your site before designing and prepare the information if an application is needed.
Not always, but it can be. A ground mount can face due south at the ideal angle and avoid shading, and it keeps character roofs clear. It costs more in mounting and cabling than a simple roof install, so we compare both for your site.
We design around it. An export power manager lets the system be larger than the export limit while the surplus is used on site, as at Wapplington. A battery can also store the surplus for later.
Yes. In-roof panels are ideal for new builds because they’re fitted with the roof. At North Newbald we installed a 9 kWp in-roof system with an 11.5 kWh battery on a new-build home.
Tell us your address, whether you’re thinking of roof or ground, and send a recent electricity bill. We’ll come back with an initial layout and estimate, then arrange a survey.
