The challenge

Indurent wanted solar across several units of the same Bretton estate, each with its own grid connection through UK Power Networks (UKPN). The roofs are flat, and the cable runs between buildings needed trenching.

The estate stayed occupied throughout. One unit was an empty warehouse when we designed the system, but by the time we installed it had a tenant. The incoming mains had been moved and a cold store built around it, so we had to rework the mains-room connection. The new plant room also blocked the signal to the generation meter, which needed an external antenna.

Our solution

  • East-west on flat roofs. We laid out 668 DMEGC 450 W panels in an east-west configuration at 10° tilt on Van der Valk flat-roof mounting, with 334 panels facing each way. East-west rows sit low on the roof and spread generation across the day.
  • Inverters matched to each roof. Four Solis three-phase inverters (one 60 kW, two 80 kW and one 40 kW) give 260 kW of AC capacity against 300.06 kWp of panels, a DC/AC ratio of about 1.15.
  • Three G99 connections. We ran Type B G99 applications with UKPN using type-tested interface protection, and met UKPN’s field engineer on site for witness testing at Unit 1a.
  • Working around tenants. We trenched cables between units, handled the extra mains-room work and fitted the external meter antenna with the client’s approval.

The results

The installation was completed in September 2025. After we submitted the commissioning documents, UKPN raised export MPANs for all three connections in December 2025. The estate now has 300.06 kWp of rooftop solar, estimated to generate around 240,000 kWh a year (est.).
